MSU Graduation Photos

Capturing this season at Michigan State University

There is just something special about photographing a graduate on the campus where so many memories were made. This recent MSU graduation session was extra meaningful for me because it was my own daughter graduating, and getting to document this season for her honestly reminded me why I love senior and graduation photography so much.

These photos capture more than a milestone
they capture the journey.

Why Graduation Photos Matter

College graduation sessions are about so much more than cap and gown photos. They capture years of hard work, late nights, friendships, growth, and the excitement of what comes next.

Favorite MSU Photo Locations

• Beaumont Tower

• The Spartan Statue

• Beautiful gardens and blooming trees

• Classic campus architecture

Tips for Future MSU Grads

• Book early. Spring graduation season gets busy fast, especially around commencement.

• The best time for photos is late April through early June when campus is green and the light is beautiful.

• Bring your cap and gown, a second outfit, honor cords or stoles, champagne or confetti, and anything meaningful from your college experience.

• Wear comfortable shoes because campus has plenty of walking.

As a Photographer and a Mom

Some of my favorite images are the in between moments. The laughing, walking across campus, fixing the cap, and just taking it all in. Those are usually the photos that end up meaning the most years later.

A Favorite Behind the Scenes Moment

One of my favorite moments from this session was actually this behind the scenes image. My husband came out of photography retirement for the evening to help assist with lighting, and I absolutely love the genuine laughter between them here.

After years of watching me photograph seniors, newborns, and families, it felt really special having him back beside me for such an important milestone for our daughter.

These are the kinds of moments I always end up loving most. Not just the perfectly posed images, but the real interactions in between, the laughter, the memories being made during the session itself, and the people who helped support them along the way.
