When Should You Book Your Newborn Session?
A simple guide for growing families in Howell, Michigan and Brighton, Michigan preparing for those first days with their baby
If you are expecting, there is already so much to think about before your baby arrives. Between appointments, getting the nursery ready, and preparing for life with a newborn, it can be hard to know when to start planning photos too.
One of the questions I get asked most often is when to book a newborn session, and the short answer is during pregnancy. Booking ahead gives you the most flexibility and makes the experience feel much more relaxed once your baby is here.
01
The best time to reach out
The best time to book your newborn session is in your second trimester, or early in your third trimester.
When you book, we choose a session date that is about two weeks after your due date. Once your baby arrives, we can always adjust if needed depending on when they are born and how everyone is settling in.
02
When newborn sessions usually take place
Most newborn sessions are photographed within the first 5 to 14 days after birth. During that window, babies tend to be sleepier and easier to settle, which allows for those soft, calm images people often picture when they think of newborn photography.
That said, every baby is different. Some babies arrive early and need a little more time. Some families need extra space to recover. And some parents simply do not think about booking until baby is already here. Beautiful images can still happen outside of that early window.
03
Why booking early makes things easier
Booking your newborn session ahead of time means you are not trying to search for a photographer while sleep deprived and adjusting to a brand new routine. It also gives you time to ask questions, plan outfits, and feel prepared before the session ever arrives.
For families looking for a newborn photographer in Howell, Michigan or Brighton, Michigan, booking early also gives you the best chance of securing a spot on the calendar during the season you need it.
04
What if your baby is already here?
If your baby has already arrived and you have not booked yet, you can still absolutely reach out. I never want parents to feel like they missed their chance.
While booking during pregnancy is always ideal, I do my best to leave flexibility in my schedule whenever I can. Even if your baby is a little older, your session can still feel meaningful, relaxed, and true to this season of your life.
05
What happens after you book
Once your session is reserved, everything should feel simple from there. You will have a date set, guidance on what to expect, and time to think through the details before baby arrives.
When your little one is born, you will reach out and we can adjust your session date if needed. My goal is always to make the process feel calm and easy so you can focus on your family.
06
Ready to plan your newborn session?
If you are expecting and looking for a newborn photographer in Howell, Michigan or Brighton, Michigan, the best time to reach out is while you are still pregnant.
And if your baby is already here, you are always welcome to inquire. I would love to help you document this season in a way that feels simple, honest, and lasting.
